Roku is a versatile streaming device that works efficiently with devices of other brands. It is a well-known fact that Roku has announced support for Google Assistant in 2017, and it has been going great for both companies and specially, the users who are using Roku and Google Assistant.

Now, Roku has decided to join hands with one more company who is into voice-assistant niche, i.e., Amazon. Roku will now allow its Roku streaming devices to be used with Amazon Alexa voice assistant. With Amazon Alexa, users will be able to control Roku streaming devices and Roku TVs with voice commands. For example, they can say ‘Alexa, open Netflix on Roku’, or any other app for that matter.

It will be possible for you to launch apps, pause content or find something that you would like to watch using voice commands. If you own a Roku TV and want to turn your TV on or off, increase or decrease the volume or change inputs, then you can do all that using Alexa.

However, you will have to mention ‘Roku’ in each voice command rather than just saying ‘the TV’. In case, you have also connected an antenna with your Roku TV, then you will be able to tune to specific channels. With Amazon Alexa incorporated into Roku, things will become a lot easier for Roku users in terms of accessing their favorite content on popular streaming apps.

When it comes to the functionality, there isn’t much difference between Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, so you can control Roku media streaming player with Alexa just like how you would control via Google Assistant. All in all, there shouldn’t be anything that one voice assistant can do that other can’t.

As far as voice assistant is concerned, you need to have Amazon Echo that is equipped with Alexa voice assistant because that is how you will be able to control Roku. Although Roku hasn’t integrated support for either platform, i.e., Google Assistant or Alexa speaker into its Roku remove, so you will only be able to run only company’s proprietary voice control system. Roku may add the controls on the Roku remote in the future, but there hasn’t been any date specified by the company so far.
